Imphal: The Manipur government has announced the implementation of a grading system for the class 10 board examinations, effective from this year.
According to an official statement, with the introduction of grades, marks will longer display in the mark statement cum Certificate issued by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, from the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2024.
In the grading system being introduced, no total marks/aggregate will be displayed in the document, no division or rank will be awarded to the students and only pass/fail will be printed in the HSLC Certificate, it said.
Students will be awarded grades A1 for those securing 91 to 100 with grade points 10 and A2 for getting 81-90 with grade points 9. Those getting between 21-30 as E1 and 00-20 as E2 both would termed as fail.
“The government felt that though competition amongst the students is good for improving one’s performance, there is a need to see that it does not lead to stress or completely dishearten a minor. On the other hand, the grading system reduces stress and burden on the students helping them to learn with less stress without being over competitive at their age,” stated the statement issued by the Joint Secretary of the Education Department, Elangbam Sonia.
The official also stated that the introduction of a grading system in the HSLC examination 2024 is given the changing times and new programs being introduced in the education sector and also the need for the state Board to change and adopt a new system which will enhance the overall performance of the students without undue pressure.
The HSLC examination 2024 conducted by BOSEM started on Friday and will continue till April 8 across 154 exam centres.
This year, a total of 37,715 students are appearing for the class 10 board exam, of which 19,087 are male, and 18,628 female students.
