Imphal: Three members of the UNLF (United National Liberation Front (P)), including the outfit’s army chief, were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday.
According to reliable sources, a joint operation conducted by Manipur police, NIA, and CRPF led to the arrest of Thokchom Thoiba, a self-styled army chief of the organization, along with Lieutenant Colonel Laimayum Ingba, chief of the intelligence department of the UNLF(P), and another cadre near Tiddim road at around 10:30 am.
Security has been heightened in and around Imphal following the arrest of the three Pambei-led UNLF cadres by the NIA to prevent any untoward incidents.
It is noteworthy that the Pambei-led UNLF outfit had signed a ceasefire agreement with the Government of India on November 29, 2023. The peace pact with the oldest insurgent group in Manipur has been hailed as historic.
Meanwhile, women in various parts of Imphal have taken to the streets to protest against the UNLF arrests.
