Kohima: A state-of-the-art histopathology lab was inaugurated at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), an initiative of the Investment & Development Authority Nagaland (IDAN) and the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
The lab was inaugurated on Tuesday by Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Suman Kumar Bery.
Managing Director of NHAK, Dr. Sendimeren Aonok, hailed the occasion as a historic moment for the state, attributing the achievement to the leadership of the Prime Minister and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Notably, this histopathology unit marks the first of its kind to be established under the CSR program, sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
Joint Secretary of IDAN, Reny Wilfred, echoed Dr. Aonok’s sentiments, emphasising the significance of the histopathology lab for NHAK and Nagaland. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the project, highlighting the collaborative effort that made the initiative possible.
Wilfred shared the importance of partnerships with organisations like ‘Doctors for You,’ which provided crucial support in terms of manpower, expertise, capacity building, and training, ensuring the successful implementation and delivery of services to the community.
In addition to the inauguration of the histopathology lab, a notable step was taken towards advancing nursing education and healthcare services in Nagaland. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among Doctors For You, the Principal Director of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, the Joint Secretary of IDAN, the Additional Secretary of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, and the Nursing School at District Hospital Mokokchung.

The MoU outlined several key initiatives, including the upgradation of the GNM Nursing School into a B.Sc Nursing College in Mokokchung, operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The agreement also focused on strengthening existing GNM schools, providing education, training, and research facilities for nursing education, conducting research, and assisting the state government in planning and managing nursing education programs.
