Prohibitory order imposed near Baksa District Jail amid law and order concerns

The District Magistrate of Baksa has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prevent potential unrest near the District Jail in Nikashi.

The order, dated October 15, 2025, was issued by District Magistrate Gautam Das, ACS, following reports of possible disturbance to public peace and security in the area. It prohibits the assembly of five or more persons within a 500-metre radius of the District Jail and restricts activities that could lead to public disorder.

The restrictions include a ban on carrying weapons such as lathis, spears, daggers, and swords in public places. Public rallies, processions, demonstrations, strikes, or dharnas without prior permission have also been prohibited within the restricted zone. The order further bars activities such as stone-pelting, bursting of crackers, or throwing inflammable materials that may endanger public safety or property.

The District Magistrate stated that the decision was necessary to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident in the area. The order will remain in force until further notice, and any violation will attract legal action under the relevant provisions of law.

The Superintendent of Police, Baksa, has been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order through officers in charge of local police stations and outposts across the district.
