Shillong: Meghalaya police on Friday detained twelve bodyguards and a city businessman, and seized five airguns, two air pistols, six magazine pouches, two laptops and five handheld communication sets. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem said the seizure was made on grounds of suspected impersonation of law enforcement personnel and intimidation.
Around 2:30 pm, officials spotted a red Audi A4 without a registration number, a black Scorpio N (ML-05-AF-0309), and a black Toyota Innova (T0922ML7411A) parked outside Shopper’s Stop, IGP. All three vehicles were fitted with tinted glass, with one of them equipped with a siren.
Inside the vehicles, police found twelve men dressed in black fatigues, suspected to be bodyguards of Mebanshem Snaitang, a resident of Pohkseh, Shillong.
On inspection, authorities recovered five airguns, two air pistols, six magazine pouches, two laptops, five handheld communication sets and several number plates.
Police said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act at Sadar Police Station. Officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to determine whether Snaitang or his associates are linked to other criminal activities.
