The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported an 8.69% growth in freight unloading for August 2025 compared to the same month last year. A total of 1,113 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded during the period.
A large share of this freight supported the northeastern states. In Assam, 624 rakes were unloaded, including 282 carrying essential commodities. Tripura received 174 rakes, while Nagaland saw 14, Arunachal Pradesh eight, Manipur 34, Meghalaya six and Mizoram 24.
Beyond the Northeast, 380 rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and 316 in Bihar, consisting of both essential and non-essential commodities, within NFR’s jurisdiction.
Officials said the uninterrupted supply of essential and other goods has been critical for daily life and economic activity in the region. They noted that the completion of doubling projects in key sections has helped improve freight handling, making transportation of goods quicker and more efficient. This, they said, has directly supported the steady increase in freight unloading across the zone.
