Kohima: The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), on Tuesday, intensified its agitation into the second phase in protest against the prolonged delay in the construction of the NH-29 (Kohima to Jessami) Road – Package-2.
The project, which has remained stalled for over six months, has prompted the union to enforce stricter actions to press for accountability from the implementing agencies.
Effective from May 12, 2025, the CSU began restricting the movement of vehicles belonging to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., and all government-registered vehicles. Exemptions were granted only to vehicles under medical, administrative, emergency, and essential services, as per the union’s notification.
However, the CSU expressed dismay over the “continued apathy” of both NHIDCL and Ratna Infra, citing their silence and failure to engage despite repeated public appeals and warnings.
Highlighting violations of the imposed restrictions, the CSU reported that a total of 12 vehicles—11 belonging to NHIDCL and one government-registered—have been seized for flouting the blockade order. The union has termed the incidents as “blatant disregard” for its directives.
Reiterating its demands, the CSU warned that any further unauthorised vehicular movement along the Chakhabama–Kikrüma road stretch will be met with intensified action.
The union further stated that the ongoing agitation will continue “with full force” until their concerns are addressed.
“The CSU holds the implementing agency responsible for any untoward incidents or consequences arising along the NH-29 Road Package-2 stretch from Chakhabama to Kikrüma,” it added.
