Kohima: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has launched a scathing attack on the Nagaland government, accusing it of inaction and complicity in the alleged sexual misconduct case involving senior IAS officer Reny Wilfred.
In a press release issued Tuesday, the RPP questioned what it called the “deafening silence” of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government, terming the case a symptom of “moral bankruptcy” and a “rotten nexus” within the system.
Wilfred, who currently serves as Joint Secretary (Finance) in the state government, has been accused of violating the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and allegedly targeting female subordinates. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the RPP alleged that no disciplinary action has been taken and that the officer continues to hold a senior post.
“While common citizens face the full wrath of the law for petty crimes, this serial offender still enjoys unprecedented state protection— as Joint Secretary (Finance). So instead of initiating disciplinary proceedings against him by way of suspension the state government has rewarded this bureaucrat. This is criminal collusion at the highest levels,” the RPP accused.
“The Metha-Rio-Wilfred nexus remains a festering wound in public discourse. Why is the initial complainant IDAN Chairman Abu Metha and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio remaining conspicuously mute? Is Wilfred’s immunity a quid pro quo for buried secrets? Who is obstructing the wheels of justice, and why?” the RPP questioned.
The statement alleged that Wilfred had previously boasted about being approached to topple the government, ridiculed the judiciary, and slandered the Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC)—actions the party claimed were being overlooked.
Women’s organisations including the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Angami Women Organization (AWO), and student bodies such as the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) have reportedly called for justice, but the RPP said their appeals have been ignored.
The party further criticised the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for its lack of response, questioning the government’s commitment to women empowerment and good governance.
“The government is warned not to pursue vendetta politics against any of the women complainants in IDAN through termination of jobs and transfer. The RPP will be watching the issue closely. This dirty episode exposes the putrid underbelly of Nagaland’s power structure—and it continues to grow. Sooner or later, this unholy protection and nexus must break,” it added.
