Formula 2 season has started in Bahrain. One of the main questions is, who will be prime in the Prema Racing power team of the previous seasons? Both pilots left the team, Oscar Piastri and Robert Schwartzman were promoted to Formula-1 along with several pilots from other teams. Experienced Indian race driver Jehan Daruvala and young Norwegian Dennis Hauger have taken their place. So the question is, who is going to be the first number in Prema Racing. On the one hand, Jehan Daruvala has been with Formula 2 for two years already, earlier he represented Carlin Motorsport. Daruvala showed good results in this team, but the best overall score result was 7.
However, we must remember, that Carlin Motorsport is far behind Prema Racing and even UNI-Virtuosi Racing. Replacing his racing car with a faster one should open new possibilities for Daruvala. This became clear during tests in Bahrain in early March when the Indian driver showed the best time. On the other hand, Dennis Hauger, who has just turned 19, is Formula 3 champion and is considered one of the most talented racing drivers in the world.
Most experts agree that 18-year-old Theo Pourchaire from France, who took fifth place in overall score with ART Grand Prix, could compete with Daruvala and Hauger for the championship. All four racing drivers who were better than him in the overall score chart of 2021 left F2 this season. This gives Pourchaire chances for victory, despite not having the fastest car.
Juri Vips of Hitech Grand Prix and Liam Lawson of Carlin are among the less obvious racing drivers who can show high results. Last year Yuri Vips from Estonia took sixth place in the overall score and even won the Grand Prix in Baku.
Last year Liam represented Hitech Grand Prix. He could have scored more than his teammates if he hadn’t fallen out of the race six times and even got disqualified once. All this cost Liam Lawson his score, and he finished number 9. His transfer to a higher-profile stable will help improve his results.
It is unclear what to expect of Virtuosi who have completely renewed their lineup. It is unlikely that the team will be able to hold second place. Last season Jack Doohan and Marino Sato showed moderate results, having scored 8 points in total during the entire championship. Though it must be noted that Jack started in the previous season at the very end of the tournament, having participated in six races and scored seven points. Marino Sato from Japan participated in the entire season and scored only one point, having taken 21st place. Will Dooen and Sate show high results in the best F2 racing cars? The first starts of the season will show.
We cannot expect champions titles for the drivers of MP Motorsport, DAMS, Campos Racing, Trident Charouz Racing System, or Van Amersfoort Racing: these teams lack the necessary resources. This is because this season there will be four more stages than last year, keeping in mind the canceled stage in Sochi.
