Guwahati: In a shocking incident that raises concerns about women’s safety in the city, a young woman was allegedly abducted forcefully in the crowded GS Road area of Guwahati. The incident took place on the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday.
According to initial reports, the accused, identified as Hirakjyoti Pathak from the Panjabari area, was in a high-end four-wheeler with three others when he attempted to abduct the victim. The woman was returning from work when the accused made the forceful attempt.
However, the accused’s plan was thwarted by people present in the area who came to the victim’s rescue. In a desperate attempt to escape, the accused then tried to run over the victim and her friend, injuring both of them in the process.
The injured individuals were rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical attention.
It has come to light that Hirakjyoti Pathak was previously involved in another incident in November last year, where he allegedly attempted to set his wife on fire with the help of his parents. Fortunately, the wife managed to escape from her in-laws and sought help from the Satgaon police, who registered a case against the accused.
