The meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Kiphire under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer, NCS.
Briefing the members on the incident that occurred on Saturday in Pungro town and several villages under Pungro and Kiusam circles, Longkumer said the situation was now under control.
Addressing the officers, the DC reminded them of their responsibility to serve the people irrespective of the prevailing circumstances. He urged all officers to contribute in their respective capacities to ensure the safety and security of residents and facilitate the rehabilitation of affected people.
Longkumer also acknowledged the appeal made by the USLP for peace and harmony between the two communities. He informed the meeting that many students had lost their academic essentials and uniforms, while several families had lost their homes in the incident.
He appealed to all officers and the Officers’ Club Kiphire to extend assistance to the affected people in whatever way possible.
The house strongly condemned the incident and stressed that issues should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding. It observed that a lasting solution could not be achieved without both sides coming together.
