Guwahati: The Income Tax Department has urged citizens to assist in ensuring free and fair Legislative Assembly elections in Assam, scheduled for April 9, 2026, by reporting suspicious movement of unaccounted money and valuables.
As part of its efforts to support the Election Commission of India in curbing the use of black money during elections, the Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), North Eastern Region, Guwahati, will maintain strict vigil throughout the Model Code of Conduct period.
Officials said close monitoring will be carried out on the movement of unaccounted cash, bullion, precious metals, and other valuables suspected to be used for electoral purposes within the state.
To facilitate public participation, a 24×7 control room has been set up at Room No. 505, 5th Floor, Aayakar Bhawan, Christian Basti, GS Road, Guwahati.

The department clarified that informants are not required to disclose personal details such as their name or identity. However, the information shared must be credible and actionable.
