Kochi: Mizoram has been selected as the Focus State at the 8th Rain International Nature Film Festival in Kochi, Kerala, with four films from the state scheduled to be screened during the event.

Mizoram’s Information, Public Relations, Printing and Stationery Minister B. Lalchhanzova attended the festival’s inaugural programme on Thursday, expressing hope that the platform would help Mizo filmmakers showcase the state’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

He said the festival could also encourage the exchange of ideas and strengthen discussions on environmental conservation through cinema.

Congratulating the Jayaraj Foundation for sustaining the festival, Lalchhanzova highlighted the role of nature films in raising environmental awareness and promoting conservation.

The minister also drew parallels between Kerala and Mizoram, noting that both states placed strong emphasis on education, faith, community values and social responsibility despite being separated by nearly 3,000 kilometres.

Organised by Kerala filmmaker Jayaraj, who has also served as chairman of the National Film Awards jury, the festival is being hosted at the SCMS School of Technology and Management and will continue until October 31.

The event is supported by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the Jayaraj Foundation, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and other organisations.

Ten members of the Bangalore Mizo Association also performed Mizo cultural dances at the inaugural programme, drawing a warm response from the audience.
