Kaliyaganj Station redevelopment reaches 50% completion

Maligaon: Kaliyaganj Railway Station, a key station within the Katihar division of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), has achieved 50% progress in its redevelopment works under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This redevelopment is part of a broader initiative to enhance railway facilities across the NFR region, with a total of Rs. 10,369 crores allocated in the interim Budget 2024-25 for railway infrastructure projects.

Under the ABSS, 91 stations within the NFR’s jurisdiction are being upgraded to include world-class modern amenities. The Kaliyaganj station, located in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district, is undergoing a significant transformation at a cost of Rs. 24.87 crores. The revamp aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities to railway users in the surrounding areas.

The redevelopment works at Kaliyaganj station include observation of plot coverage, provisions for future additional platforms, and the creation of 3D views and master plans. Efforts are also underway to demarcate retained, relocated, and demolished structures. Additionally, plans for 12-metre foot overbridges (FOBs) with retail kiosks and other passenger amenities have been submitted and are currently under review. The FOBs, which will include lifts for improved accessibility, have been strategically located based on site conditions. A separate master plan has also been prepared to accommodate Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).

The redevelopment will feature new lavatories for both genders and Divyangjan, as well as other amenities. Key infrastructural plans such as platform layout, signage plan, drainage plan, and cable route plan are set to be executed. The station will also incorporate facilities for rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, substations, an electronic interlocking building, and a solar plant. Adequate lighting and clear signage will ensure the station premises are safe and easily accessible for all passengers.

This upgrade is expected to create new employment opportunities, foster business growth, and enhance travel convenience for passengers. The revamped Kaliyaganj station is anticipated to become a hub for socio-economic activities in the area, thus promoting both connectivity and economic development.
