Mamata Banerjee set to make inaugural visit to southern Assam

Guwahati: West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Mamata Banerjee, is poised to make her first visit to Southern Assam as she prepares to address a political rally in Silchar on Wednesday.

The rally aims to bolster the campaign efforts for Radhe Shyam Biswas, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate in Silchar, according to party officials.

Assam Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Ripun Bora elaborated on Banerjee’s upcoming visit, revealing that she is scheduled to arrive in Silchar around noon and deliver a public address at the Town Club field.

Anticipating a turnout of approximately 15,000 attendees, Bora emphasised the significant interest and enthusiasm surrounding Mamata Banerjee’s address, highlighting its importance in rallying support against the BJP.

Bora underscored that Banerjee’s visit is strategically aimed at galvanizing opposition against the BJP, warning of the potential threat to the constitution should the BJP return to power. He further asserted that the contest for the Silchar Lok Sabha seat primarily pits the BJP against the Trinamool Congress, with the Congress fielding a perceived weaker candidate.

Trinamool Congress’s efforts to consolidate votes in Silchar have been relentless, with party leadership under MP Sushmita Dev spearheading an extensive door-to-door campaign across the constituency, ensuring outreach to every household in the region.
