Guwahati: In a heartwarming gesture coinciding with the vibrant Rongali Bihu festivities, Kamrup District Commissioner and District Election Officer Keerthi Jalli along with other officials visited the residence of 105-year-old voter Ramati Baishya in Dalibari village.
As the Assamese New Year unfolded, the visit transcended mere pleasantries as it symbolised a distinctive initiative by the district administration to honor older citizens and foster their active engagement in the democratic process.
According to the Assam Tribune, DC Jalli extended warm Bihu greetings to Ramati Baishya and presented her with traditional Assamese offerings, including Gamosa, Cheleng, and Doi-Pitha.
Jalli also encouraged Baishya to exercise her voting rights in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, underlining the significance of her role in shaping the nation’s democratic fabric.

Reflecting on the encounter, Jalli expressed her delight at meeting the centenarian voter, emphasising the importance of her commitment to casting her vote.
In a concerted effort to extend respect and encouragement to older voters, the district administration of Kamrup organised similar felicitation programs for several octogenarians across various constituencies.
