Guwahati: According to a report by The Tripura Chronicle, residents of Panchmanagar under Mailong ADC Village in Tripura staged a road blockade on National Highway 208(A) on Tuesday afternoon, protesting against a severe drinking water crisis that has persisted for over three months.
The demonstration, held near Panchmanagar hospital, saw women carrying empty pots and buckets as they joined others in halting traffic for hours. Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded, and commuters faced heavy inconvenience as the agitation continued.
Villagers alleged that despite government promises under the Nal Se Jal scheme, no meaningful steps had been taken to address the crisis. Although two pump machines were installed a year ago, locals claimed that no operators were ever appointed, leading to a complete breakdown of water supply.
Repeated appeals to authorities have reportedly gone unanswered, and officials have also refused to arrange emergency water delivery through tankers.
Security personnel, including police and TSR, were deployed at the site, but no senior officials met the protestors at the time of reporting. Villagers warned that the blockade would continue until a high-ranking officer assured them of immediate relief.
