Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the central government has sanctioned Rs 40 crore as the central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to aid flood relief efforts in Tripura.
“Given the flood situation in Tripura, the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, has approved the release of Rs 40 crore in advance from the SDRF to support the affected people,” Shah posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Shah also confirmed that three Army columns and four helicopters have been deployed to assist the state government in handling the situation.
“A total of 11 NDRF teams, three Army columns, and four Air Force helicopters are already assisting the state government in relief and rescue operations. The Modi government stands shoulder-to-shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Tripura during these challenging times,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in landslides in the Santirbazar subdivision. Ten people died in two separate incidents in the area due to the devastating landslides.
Seven Dead in Landslide
In a tragic incident, seven people, including minor children, died after a landslide struck Ashwini Tripura Para, a remote village in the Santirbazar subdivision of South Tripura district, on Wednesday night.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed his condolences and announced Rs 4 lakh in financial aid for each of the affected families.
“I am deeply saddened by the landslide that claimed the lives of seven people from two families in Ashwini Tripura Para and three others from another family in Debipur within the same subdivision. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. While this loss is irreplaceable, the state government will provide Rs 4 lakh to each affected family,” Dr. Saha said.
He urged the public to cooperate with the state authorities during this disaster, assuring them that the government is fully committed to assisting those in need.
