Imphal: The Indian Army has distributed 25 sewing machines to women at Kanto Sabal in Imphal West district under Operation Sadbhavana to promote vocational skills, self-employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The initiative aims to empower women through tailoring and entrepreneurship, helping them supplement household incomes and achieve greater financial independence, an Army official said.

The distribution is part of the Army’s ongoing community development efforts in Manipur. Previous welfare initiatives included the installation of solar lights and the provision of water supply facilities, furniture and other essential items for local residents and schools.

The sewing machines are expected to help beneficiaries develop practical skills, establish small businesses and contribute to their families’ financial well-being.

Operation Sadbhavana is an Indian Army initiative aimed at supporting community development through welfare programmes. The Army said such efforts seek to address local needs, promote self-reliance and strengthen trust and cooperation between the force and local communities.

Through these initiatives, the Army reaffirmed its commitment to improving livelihoods and supporting inclusive development in Manipur.
