Agartala: Tripura police arrested two drug dealers from the Tripura-Mizoram border, leading to the seizure of Yaba tablets worth rupees six crore hidden in secret chambers of the four-wheeler they were on board.
According to police sources, the narcotic substances were concealed in secret chambers created on the rear lights and at the bottom of the seats in the back end. A total of six bundles of methamphetamine tablets were recovered from the intercepted car at the Damcherra area.
Police officials stated that the seizure occurred as the drug-carrying consignment was entering Tripura from Mizoram.
“Each of the bundles contained 10,000 Yaba tablets. A police team led by OC Damcherra police station Sanjay Majumder impounded the four-wheeler in the wee hours of Thursday. The subsequent search operation led to the seizure, which is one of the biggest drug hauls in recent times,” said a senior police official.
Two individuals, identified as Maman Hossain (34) and Krishna Chandra Sinha (35), both from Tripura, were arrested in connection with the case.
It is worth noting that Yaba tablets, also known as Crazy drugs, are a combination of two chemical substances—methamphetamine and caffeine. They are also called the “Crazy drugs” for the intense high they induce after consumption.
SP North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakraborty rushed to the spot after news of the seizure spread.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two individuals hailing from Tripura were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) from the Happy Valley locality of Shillong on Wednesday for carrying contraband items.
The duo has been identified as Joel Tripura (29) and Joshua Khiangte (36), both hailing from Damchhara, North Tripura.
According to police reports, 11 soapboxes containing 139.98 grams of heroin, one Aadhaar card, one PAN card, one mobile phone, and one Tata Sumo vehicle (ML05N0515) were seized.
