Agartala: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule of Lok Sabha elections on Saturday formally blowing the poll bugle for the electoral contest. The two Lok Sabha seats of Tripura would go to polls on April 19 (West Tripura) and April 26 (East Tripura) next in a phased manner.
Besides, the by-election for the Ramnagar assembly constituency that fall vacant after the untimely demise of the sitting BJP MLA Surajit Datta will also be held on April 19. A press statement issued by the state election department stated that on March 20 the notification for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency would be out and the process of nomination filing would continue till March 27.
The scrutiny of the papers would be conducted on March 28 and till March 30 the candidates would be able to withdraw their nomination papers. For the East Tripura parliamentary constituency, the poll notification will be issued on March 28. The process of filing nomination papers would continue till April 04 and on the 5th of April, the papers would be scrutinized.
Till April 08, the candidates can withdraw their papers. On June 04 the counting would be conducted keeping parity with all the parliamentary seats. Later in the evening, District Election officer and District Magistrate West Tripura district Dr Vishal Kumar informed the media persons that the elections of the Ramnagar assembly constituency would also be conducted on April 19 next.
According to the election commission data, a total of 28.56 lakh voters have been found eligible to cast their votes in the ensuing elections as per the revised electoral rolls published on January 05, 2024. Names of 32,218 new voters were added to the electoral rolls after the summary revision. A total of 13,231 names were deleted as well.
