Agartala: Activists of Vishva Hindu Parishad protested the administrative move to evict an under-construction temple located at Vivekananda Palli, Sabroom under South Tripura district. The proposed Kali temple, which is being constructed on government land, is facing objections from the office of the sub-divisional magistrate.
Speaking on the issue, the President of VHP Sabroom, Chandan Chakraborty unit, alleged that the SDM has lodged an FIR against three people of the locality for supporting the construction of the temple. “The locals of the area informed me about everything. The administration is trying to hurt the sentiments of the people. This can’t be tolerated. We have tried to meet the SDM but he has avoided us. We shall take up the issue with the District Magistrate for redressal,” Chakraborty told reporters.
According to sources, soon after the construction of the temple started, the administration intervened and objected to it. Defying the prohibition, the roofing of the temple was completed. SDM Sabroom, Shibajyoti Datta, lodged an FIR against three persons for flouting the administrative orders.
A delegation of the locals accompanied by the VHP activists tried to convince the SDM, but he categorically said that the land might be required for the construction of development projects and hence no illegal construction is permissible here. Noteworthy here, the site is located at a stone’s throw distance from the Satchand rural development block.
The locals, reportedly, approached the ex-MLA and BJP leader Shankar Roy as well, but nothing worked out in their favour. “This is not the only temple that is being constructed on government land. There are numerous instances like this. We shall never allow the temple to be dismantled from the place,” Chakraborty added.
