Agartala: In a significant development, the High Court of Tripura has removed Judicial Magistrate Biswatosh Dhar from the Kamalpur subdivision court. The decision was taken shortly after charges of molestation were leveled against the judicial officer by a rape victim. EastMojo broke the story on February 18, two days after the incident. The woman alleged that she went to the judge’s chamber to get her statement recorded under CrPC section 164 related to the sexual assault she faced. The judicial officer allegedly molested her. A notification issued by the High Court on February 19 said that the accused judicial officer was removed from Kamalpur court and put on hold for his further posting. He was asked to report to the High Court of Tripura.
“Sri Biswatosh Dhar, Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)- cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kamalpur, Dhalai District is hereby transferred to the High Court and is kept on compulsory waiting for future posting,” the notification, undersigned by Registrar General Vishwajeet Pandey, reads.
According to the notification, a civil judge junior division was entrusted with the responsibility of Dhar’s office.
“The charge of the Court and Office of the Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)-cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kamalpur, Dhalai District shall remain with Smt. Madhumita Biswas, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Jr. Div.), Kamalpur, Dhalai District until further order,” the notification read.
Three days after the incident, a police complaint was also lodged against the accused person. Additional Session Judge Dhalai District Goutam Sarkar led inquiry panel is also investigating the matter.
