Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the redevelopment of 23 railway stations of the NFR (Northeast Frontier Railway) on February 26, 2024. These stations will undergo a transformation under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ scheme aimed at the development of railway stations across India. Among these 23 stations, the foundation stone laying ceremony for Agartala station in Tripura, Sairang station in Mizoram, and Rangpo station in Sikkim will be conducted by the Prime Minister himself.
Agartala railway station in Tripura will witness a significant facelift under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore. Similarly, Sairang station in Mizoram and Rangpo station in Sikkim will be redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 crore and Rs. 335 crore respectively.
The renovation of these stations will incorporate modern passenger amenities while preserving the local architecture of the respective states. The upgrade is expected to generate new opportunities for employment and business, as well as enhance the travel experience for passengers across the Northeast region.
In addition to the aforementioned stations, 11 stations from Assam, including Haibargaon, Gohpur, Harmuti, Majbat, Pathshala, Tangla, Udalguri, Viswanath Chariali, Murkongselek, North Lakhimpur, and Silapathar, along with 3 stations from Bihar and 6 stations from West Bengal, were also selected for the foundation stone laying ceremony.
Moreover, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for 6 Road Under Bridges and 2 Road Over Bridges under the NFR jurisdiction.
The station upgrades aim to improve station access, amenities for Divyangjans (differently-abled individuals), circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators, free Wi-Fi, properly designed signages, dedicated pedestrian pathways, kiosks for local products, better passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, and other necessities at each station.
