These are still early days in IPL 2022 and Rajasthan Royals is already looking like the team to beat in this edition of the Indian Premier League. They have had a solid start to the season with formidable wins and are sitting comfortably at the top of the table. Earlier on Saturday, they notched up their second straight win after they defeated the strong Mumbai Indians by 23 runs.
Assam’s very own, Riyan Parag has been an integral part of the squad and is playing as a finisher in the Rajasthan Royals team set-up. However, he had a limited role to play in today’s match, courtesy of some superlative display of batting by the Rajasthan Royals’ top order. Jos Buttler scored a century while skipper Sanju Samson and power hitter Shimron Hetmyer contributed with quickfire knocks to set a target of 194 for Mumbai Indians. Riyan came to bat only in the penultimate over which meant he had to go for the big shots from the word ‘go’. Riyan scored 5 runs off 4 balls including a boundary off Tymal Mills.
Riyan made an immediate impact, coming on to the field in the 2nd innings. He has been an outstanding fielder for his team and helped get rid of the dangerous Rohit Sharma today, courtesy of a sharp, low catch at the backward point region. Riyan bowled an over as well.
He has been in brilliant form, coming into the season with powerful performances in the practice matches. One of the best fielders in the team, Riyan is playing as a finisher and is expected to play important roles in the upcoming matches.
Rajasthan Royals have a strong net run rate as well and will look to carry the good form forward. They next play Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, 5th April.
