The Indian Premier League (IPL) is India’s biggest sporting extravaganza with each team having super strong fan bases across the globe. As such, it was no surprise that Twitter went berserk with fans and cricket pundits trying to predict the best combinations, as each team geared up to retain a set of core players, ahead of the mega auction.
With the addition of two new teams, IPL will be a ten-team tournament from 2022. The retention list is out now and it will be interesting to see the strategies of the two new teams as they will also want to build a strong core. The two new teams are allowed to pick three players each from outside, before the mega auction. Each team has a salary cap of INR 90 crores.
The hullabaloo over the retentions could be felt throughout the day as netizens made sure that hashtags like #IPLAuction2022 and #IPL2022Retention trended. Everybody had their permutations and combinations in place. Some got their predictions correct while some were left disappointed as their favourite players failed to make the cut. The teams however, have another chance to get their other preferred players in the mega auction.
