Guwahati: Sikkim Chief Minister and SKM president PS Golay on Sunday reassured party functionaries and elected representatives of their candidature prospects in the upcoming Assembly election.
Addressing the 12th SKM foundation day celebration at Rangpo ground, Golay urged those who have demonstrated committed service to the people to be confident about their candidature.
During his address, Golay made it clear that individuals who did not actively contribute to public service in the past 4.5 years should be cautious about expressing a sudden desire to serve the people.
He stated, “Those who committedly served the janta during these 4.5 years and do not want to contest this time, people will still want them. Whoever has served the people sincerely, they can stay assured. Those who did not, should be concerned.”
Highlighting the challenge of accommodating all ticket aspirants, Golay acknowledged the limited number of available seats. He urged aspiring candidates to understand that there are only 32 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha MP seat, while the party has a vast number of workers. Golay emphasised that the party can only allocate tickets for the available seats and called for understanding among the aspirants.
Addressing the potential disappointment of multiple claimants from each constituency, Golay appealed to SKM cadre and ticket aspirants not to be outraged if their preferred candidate is not selected when the tickets are announced.

He encouraged unity and support for the party’s chosen candidates, stating, “It is also my responsibility to deliver victory, and if I make mistakes in the selection of candidates, the blame will go to me.”
Golay emphasized that even if deserving individuals are not chosen due to technical or other reasons, they should not be disheartened but rather continue working for the party with increased vigor. The SKM president urged unity and dedication from all party members in the run-up to the Assembly election.
