NFR focuses on enhancing tourism in Northeast India

Maligaon: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is taking significant steps to bolster tourism across Northeast India by expanding its network, improving travel safety, and offering innovative tourist-oriented services. These measures are designed to provide better connectivity for domestic and international tourists while showcasing the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region.

A key aspect of NFR’s tourism promotion is the introduction of tourist trains equipped with Vistadome coaches. These specially designed trains offer panoramic views, allowing travellers to immerse themselves in the scenic landscapes of destinations such as Haflong, Badarpur, Jorhat, Agartala, Naharlagun, and the Dooars area in North Bengal. Additionally, Vistadome coaches have been added to the narrow gauge joyride trains of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), enhancing the iconic experience of travelling through the UNESCO World Heritage site.

NFR has also introduced ‘Bharat Gaurav’ trains, which aim to showcase India’s cultural heritage and natural wonders. The region has been allocated a 14-coach Bharat Gaurav rake, further enhancing the tourism experience. To complement these train services, new retiring rooms, executive lounges, and rail coach restaurants have been developed at various stations to ensure comfortable travel for tourists.

Beyond station infrastructure, NFR is creating a tourist hub at the Brahmaputra riverfront near the Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh, featuring river cruises and a floating restaurant. Special festival trains and block bookings for tourism groups are also offered, further solidifying NFR’s role in making Northeast India an accessible and attractive destination for tourists worldwide.
