The Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli, today laid the foundation stone for the first-of-its-kind combined POL (Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants) and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) facilities in Kamardanga, Assam. The project, estimated to cost Rs 540 crores, is spread across 78.68 acres of land.
The event was attended by the Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council, Pramod Boro, MP Rwn Gwra Narzary, and Director-Marketing-HPCL Amit Garg.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Teli highlighted the importance of the project in ensuring energy security and socio-economic progress in the Northeast region. He emphasised that the facilities will enhance the region’s infrastructure backbone, meet market demand and ensure product sufficiency for Assam and its adjoining states.
The POL facility will have a tankage capacity of 20440 KL and offer a comprehensive range of MS/HSD/SKO products. It will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including an 8 Bay Tank Truck Gantry and tank wagon unloading facility.
The LPG facility, on the other hand, will boast 1500 MT mounded storage vessels, a cutting-edge 4 Bay tank truck Loading gantry, and tank wagon unloading capability. These facilities will ensure continuous LPG availability to 78 distributorships and 9.2 Lakhs customers in the region, benefiting around 7 lakh beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

The project is expected to provide energy supply to the state of Assam for 15 days. It will also facilitate direct product availability to satellite depots in the North Eastern States, enhancing energy accessibility across the region.
This project aims to that commitment and is a step forward in the government’s efforts to provide sustainable growth and development in the North East, especially Assam.
