Agartala: A complaint has been lodged against the ‘Chhoto Huzur’ of a madrasa in Kailashahar, Unakoti district, following allegations that a minor student was physically assaulted at the institution, according to a report in The Tripura Times.
The incident reportedly took place at Phulbarikandi Hafizia Madrasa in Barkhala village, under Phulbarikandi panchayat of Gournagar RD Block.
The student’s father, Manaf Ali, approached Kailashahar police station on Sunday night and submitted a written complaint alleging that his son was beaten after failing to answer a question during his studies. The complaint stated that the child sustained injury marks on his hands and legs.
Ali further alleged that his son had been subjected to corporal punishment at the madrasa over an extended period.
After learning about the alleged assault, Ali visited the institution and sought an explanation from the madrasa authorities. According to the family, the authorities initially assured them that the matter would be resolved through discussions. However, the discussions reportedly failed to produce a settlement.
Speaking to the media, Ali said that while correcting a student’s mistakes was part of education, physically assaulting a minor could not be justified in the name of discipline. He called for a thorough investigation and legal action against those responsible.
