Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Manipur in October, although the date of his visit has not yet been finalised, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Tuesday.
Khemchand was responding to reporters’ questions during a press briefing at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Mantripukhri, Imphal East, after a Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet meeting discussed measures to express gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for completing 25 years of public service.
According to the chief minister, the Cabinet also discussed developmental initiatives and projects undertaken in Manipur during Modi’s tenure.
State government spokesperson and MLA Sapam Ranjan Singh said the Cabinet acknowledged the Centre’s initiatives in the Northeast and Manipur and expressed confidence in the goal of achieving a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
Highlighting projects undertaken under the Modi government, Sapam cited the Jiribam-Imphal railway line and the construction of the Noney Bridge, described as the world’s tallest railway pier bridge.
He also referred to the signing of a peace agreement with the United National Liberation Front (P) on November 29, 2023, and the extension of the Inner Line Permit system to Manipur in December 2019.
Sapam said the Centre had also sanctioned fencing along 240 km of the India-Myanmar border in Manipur at a cost of Rs 3,223 crore.
He further cited the establishment of the National Sports University in Imphal as another major initiative.
