Aizawl: Dr. Lalmalsawma Nghaka, Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Treasurer, has launched a scathing attack on the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government over the deteriorating condition of Mizoram’s roads, claiming they are in the “worst condition since the Great Flood,” a reference to the biblical flood during Noah’s time.
During his visit to the Sihphir-Lungdai section of the national highway, Dr. Nghaka said the crumbling road network has severely disrupted livelihoods across the state. He questioned the fate of more than ₹2,300 lakh reportedly collected by the government in taxes for road repairs.
“The road was repaired in the summer, but within just three to four months it has become beyond repair again,” he said, accusing the ZPM of failing to deliver on its promise to construct roads that would last at least 15 years. “None of the roads, whether in Aizawl or those connecting villages, have survived even one monsoon.”
He urged the government to stop blaming the NHIDCL, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), or contractors, and instead take full responsibility for the failure.
Dr. Nghaka also expressed concern for farmers in Lungdai, Serkhan, Zanlawn, and Bukpui, who are unable to sell their agricultural produce on time due to the damaged roads. He extended sympathy to the sick who face delays in reaching medical care and to transport workers, including maxicab operators, whose livelihoods have been hit hard.
