The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made substantial progress in its journey towards sustainable energy practices, significantly enhancing its solar energy capacity during the 2024-25 financial year. By commissioning an additional 1,277 kWp of solar power capacity between April and October 2024, the NFR has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing renewable energy solutions.
The new installations span across divisions, with Rangiya leading with 672 kWp, Lumding contributing 545 kWp, and Alipurduar adding 60 kWp. This effort has brought the cumulative solar energy capacity of NFR to an impressive 7,399 kWp as of 31st October 2024. Lumding Division leads the overall tally with a capacity of 2,882 kWp, followed by Rangiya with 1,146 kWp, Katihar with 610 kWp, and Alipurduar with 441 kWp. The workshops at New Bongaigaon and Dibrugarh each house 1,000 kWp solar plants, and the NFR headquarters also generate 130 kWp of solar power.
The focus on solar power not only reduces NFR’s reliance on conventional energy sources but also underscores its dedication to sustainable and eco-friendly operations. By leveraging renewable energy, NFR is setting a benchmark for green practices within the Indian Railways network.

These initiatives mark a significant step in positioning NFR as a leader in renewable energy adoption in the railways sector.
