Guwahati: A one-day workshop on the “Supervision Module of the Digital General Crop Estimation Scheme (DGCES) Mobile Application” for officials from the National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operations Division (FOD), Regional Office, Guwahati and Dibrugarh, as well as officials from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam, was held on Tuesday.
The workshop, organized in Guwahati, aimed to familiarize officials with the DGCES mobile application, a tool designed to improve transparency and efficiency in crop yield estimation.
N Mohondas Singh, Director of the National Statistics Office (NSO) Zonal Office in Guwahati, inaugurated the workshop by highlighting the importance of agriculture in India and the role of the DGCES mobile application in ensuring timely and accurate data reporting.
Nitika Gupta, Deputy Director General of NSO, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of the DGCES mobile application in modernizing crop estimation processes. She encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the training to clarify any doubts they had.
The DGCES is a nationwide initiative aimed at precisely estimating crop yields. The program utilizes a survey methodology based on crop cutting experiments. The introduction of the DGCES mobile application and portal has revolutionized the process of recording these experiments by enabling officials to directly submit data from the field using features like GPS-enabled photo capture and automated plot selection.
The workshop was attended by officials from the NSO’s Field Operations Division (FOD), Regional Office in Guwahati and Dibrugarh, along with officials from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam. The training focused on providing participants with a practical understanding of the DGCES mobile application’s features and functionalities.
The NSO, established in 1950 under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, conducts nationwide sample surveys covering various socio-economic, industrial, agricultural, and price statistics. NSO conducts time-bound surveys, called rounds, to gather data for its stakeholders.
