Tamenglong: A devastating landslide triggered by heavy rainfall claimed the lives of a mother and her son, and severely injured another individual in Dimthanlong village, Tamenglong Ward No. 3, on Monday night.
The landslide struck the family’s home, killing the mother and son instantly. The critically injured individual, identified as Ringsinlung Kamei, has been airlifted to Imphal for urgent medical treatment.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of a mother and her child due to the landslide that occurred last night in Dimthanlong village, Tamenglong Ward No. 3. My heart goes out to the bereaved family. Our thoughts are with Mr. Ringsinlung Kamei, who has been critically injured in this incident. We are taking immediate steps to ensure he receives the necessary medical attention and advanced care,” wrote Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on X.
In a related incident, a major landslide has blocked National Highway 37 along the Imphal-Jiribam road between Nungba and Rengpang villages, following heavy downpours since last night. This blockage has severely disrupted vehicular movement.
The district has experienced a series of landslides and mudslides due to the heavy rainfall, significantly impacting normal activities. Additionally, a portion of Tonjei Maril Road (Old Cachar Road) between Rengpang and Taodaijang has been completely washed away. Locals fear it might take several days to repair the damaged road and establish an alternate route. Vehicles are advised to avoid this route for the time being.
