Arunachal CM marks Hindi Diwas, calls for wider use of Hindi in daily life

Guwahati: Pema Khandu-led Bharatiya Janata Party romped to a comfortable victory in the Arunachal state assembly elections, with the party having won 23 seats and leading another 23 at the time of filing this report.

The National People’s Party was a distant second, having won one and leading on four, while the People’s Party of Arunachal was leading on two seats. One independent candidate also won his seat: Wanglam Savim won the Khonsa East seat, comfortably beating Kamrang Tesia of the BJP by a margin of over 2,000 votes.

The Congress failed to open its account in Arunachal too, like Sikkim, and the party, at the time of filing this report, had less than 5% of the vote share.

The BJP had a clear head-start in the elections, having won 10 seats uncontested.
