Tinsukia: Two persons, aged 55 and 35, died on the spot after a full-body truck crashed into their two-wheeler on the Milon Pally road in Assam’s Tinsukia town on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Ajay Das and Ranjit Dey, both hailing from Naharkatia in the neighboring Dibrugarh district.
Tinsukia traffic inspector A Bailung told EastMojo that the truck (bearing registration number AS 23 BC 4906) hit the motorcycle from behind, killing both the biker and the pillion rider on the spot.
“We have confiscated the truck and looking for the accused driver, who abandoned the truck a little distance away from the accident spot and fled,” Bailung said.
“The deceased have been taken to civil hospital for post mortem.”

According to locals, it was a case of rash and negligent driving. “The big trucks and dumpers can be seen plying in a very rash manner on Tinsukia roads, at times even when there is a no-entry restriction for movement of trucks,” alleged a local, saying that the problem is growing day by day and has now reached the narrower lanes as well with growing commercial activity in deeper reaches of the town.
