The Mumbai Police on Wednesday morning arrested Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in alleged connection with an old abetment-to-suicide case of a 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018.
Following this, opinions on social media have split between those condemning the action and those supporting the act after visuals went viral of Arnab Goswami being taken by cops in a police van.

Here are some of the top reactions supporting Arnab:
Congress and its allies have shamed democracy once again.
Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy.
It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED.

.@republic Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami physically assaulted & arrested by Mumbai police is nothing but muzzling freedom of press by the vindictive M’rashtra govt. Strongly condemn this shameless politically motivated Mumbai police action. It’s like Emergency days in Maharashtra

A Black Day for Indian demoracy.
I strongly condemn the assault on senior journalist #ArnabGoswami by Mumbai police. Vendetta politics should be stopped and freedom of press should be maintained in Maharashtra by releasing Mr Goswami immediately.

Highly condemnable on part of @OfficeofUT & Maharashtra govt to act such cowardly against Arnab Goswami.
This is a direct collapse of the fourth pillar of democracy.

Those in the free press who don’t stand up today in support of Arnab, you are now tactically in support of fascism. You may not like him, you may not approve of him,you may despise his very existence but if you stay silent you support suppression. Who speaks if you are next ?

Meanwhile, the supporting the act of Arnab’s arrest:
The Question is not why Anvay Naik’s case was reopened,
The Question is why did Fadnavis close the case in the first place?
THE NATION WANTS TO KNOW

Abetment of suicide …which was pushed under the carpet by BJP Govt. Bhai jo mar gaya, usko justice na mile? But let criminal Arnab Goswami go scot free, absolve him of all the crimes because he is a journalist. Nice!
These hypocrite journos have brought dark days upon India. https://t.co/44APNd0zxc

Did @AmitShah speak up when a journalist from Kerala was arrested & slapped with the draconian UAPA for simply reporting on the Hathras case? #ArnabGoswami has been arrested for allegedly abetting a suicide, not for his journalism (or lack thereof) https://t.co/dX59dDZioc
