Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) implemented a range of initiatives across its stations to manage passenger flows during the Chhath Festival, a time marked by heightened travel demands. NFR worked to facilitate a smooth travel experience, helping families unite for the festival and ensuring their safe return.
To handle the surge in passenger numbers, NFR operated 52 pairs of special trains, adding up to over 600 trips to and from its network. Passengers expressed appreciation for the steps taken to accommodate the increased footfall.
NFR arranged extensive facilities at key stations to ease the travel experience. These stations were equipped with waiting areas, public announcement systems, train display boards, and additional seating arrangements.
To enhance safety, CCTV cameras were installed, and security measures were meticulously organised at all major stations and on trains. Anticipating the high influx of devotees, NFR implemented crowd control measures across important stations, with senior officials from the Commercial Department stationed at high-traffic locations to oversee operations.
The Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police were deployed on platforms, foot-over bridges, and in circulating areas to ensure smooth crowd movement and prevent potential incidents during the busy period. Additional arrangements were made to facilitate safe boarding and de-boarding for passengers.

To aid in the return journey of devotees, NFR has scheduled a series of special trains on 12 November 2024. These include services from Prayagraj to Rangapara North, Katihar to Dauram Madhepura and Manihari, Gomti Nagar to New Jalpaiguri, Silchar to Naharlagun, and Naharlagun to Silchar. Special services also include a train from Shri Ganga Nagar to Guwahati, which departed on 10 November and is set to reach its destination by 13 November. The added services aim to accommodate returning passengers efficiently, providing convenient options for devotees making their way back home.
Alongside its travel arrangements, NFR prioritised the overall safety and well-being of passengers. Awareness drives were conducted using print, electronic, and social media platforms to keep passengers informed and prepared for the travel season.
