UTS app unleashes geo-free ticket bookings

The Indian Railways has withdrawn the outer limit of geo-fencing restrictions on the UTS mobile app. This is a step towards enabling customers to book tickets more easily and conveniently from their homes.

Previously, if you were inside a station or at home, you could not book tickets using the UTS mobile app. The geo-fencing restrictions also prevented people from booking unreserved tickets and platform tickets within 20 to 50 kilometres of a station.

With the withdrawal of the geo-fencing restrictions, commuters can now book tickets from anywhere to anywhere within 50 kilometres of a station. However, they must reach the station premises within two hours of booking the tickets via the app. It is still not possible to book tickets inside the station using the app.

One of the main advantages of using the UTS mobile app is that users can receive a 3% bonus while recharging their R-Wallet for unreserved ticket bookings through the app. The government hopes that this will encourage customers to shift to digital booking procedures and reduce long queues at ticket counters.
