Northeast Frontier Railway adds 2 special trains to curb festive rush

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched a commendable initiative to provide budget-friendly economy meals and packaged drinking water to passengers at all railway stations and long-distance trains within its jurisdiction. This initiative, spanning across 09 locations at 08 stations including Guwahati, Kamakhya, Rangiya, New Coochbehar, Katihar, New Tinsukia, Naharlagun, and New Alipurduar, aims to offer quality service to passengers throughout their journeys, including summer special trains.

The program involves the provision of economical meals priced at Rs. 20 and snacks at Rs 50, along with 200 ml glasses of water at affordable rates. Additionally, drinking water bottles are strategically placed near general second-class and sleeper class compartments, with provisions for direct availability within the compartments of long-distance trains. IRCTC vendors are stationed with trays, ready to assist passengers with food packets and drinking water, ensuring their basic needs are met conveniently.

This initiative, which was successfully piloted at approximately 51 stations last year, has seen significant expansion. Currently operational at over 100 stations with nearly 150 counters across Indian Railways, the program is set to further grow, encompassing more stations in the near future.

The introduction of readily available, affordable meals and snacks is particularly beneficial for passengers traveling in General Class coaches, allowing them to enjoy their journeys without worrying about basic necessities.
