New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday night. The arrest comes after a two-year-long investigation into the Delhi excise policy.
According to sources, the ED team arrived at Kejriwal’s residence and questioned him for several hours before taking him into custody. Despite the Delhi High Court’s order, Kejriwal was not granted interim protection from arrest in the liquor policy case.
Reacting to the arrest, AAP leader Atishi filed an application in the Supreme Court against the illegal arrest. She alleged that the BJP government is attempting to control democracy by using CBI and ED to target the opposition. Atishi questioned the timing of the arrest, pointing out that neither the CBI nor the ED found any evidence of wrongdoing in the two-year investigation.
The arrest of Kejriwal has sent shockwaves through the political landscape in Delhi. The AAP government, which has been in power since 2015, has faced accusations of eroding the rule of law and democratic institutions in the state.

The development is likely to have significant implications for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as Kejriwal is seen as a potential challenger to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
