Mizoram: Over 1,100 workers without ILP apprehended

Aizawl: In a joint operation conducted by the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) and the Mizoram Police, a total of 1187 illegal migrant workers were apprehended for residing in Mizoram without ILP (Inner Line Permit). The operation, which targeted individuals lacking the necessary documentation to stay in the state, resulted in the detention of 1187 adults and six minors.

The CYMA, expressing gratitude towards all participating branches and sub-headquarters, highlighted the need for stringent measures to regulate the influx of individuals without ILPs into Mizoram. These individuals were subsequently handed over to police stations for further processing.

The crackdown revealed a concerning trend of non-compliance with ILP regulations, particularly in Aizawl, where 1065 individuals were found without permits. Additionally, 122 individuals were apprehended in other districts including Lunglei, Champhai, and Serchhip.

Under the Inner Line Permit (ILP) rules, non-tribal individuals, excluding non-tribal government employees, are required to obtain a temporary ILP valid for seven days upon entering Mizoram. This permit must be renewed and revalidated every six months, with a mandatory renewal after 18 months.
