Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has provided emergency relief assistance to families affected by the recent landslide in Mon district.
According to officials, the relief materials were airlifted from Dimapur and handed over to the affected families to meet their immediate needs.
Meanwhile, the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), Kohima, launched a crowdfunding initiative to support the landslide victims. Through voluntary public contributions, the union mobilised and delivered essential commodities to the affected families.
The union said the relief drive will continue and appealed to the public to extend support through freewill contributions to assist families impacted by the disaster.
Menahwile, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) have expressed deep concern over the devastating floods and landslides that have affected Mon district and other parts of Nagaland, urging the state government to step up relief, rehabilitation and disaster preparedness measures.
In a statement, the NPCC said the floods have severely impacted Tizit Town, Tizit Village and Lapalampong Village in Mon district, with reports indicating that nearly 800 households in Tizit Town alone have been affected.
The party said the disaster has caused widespread destruction, damaging or washing away homes, schools, hostels, shops, tea gardens, agricultural land and livestock, leaving hundreds of families in a humanitarian crisis.
Expressing concern over reports that adequate relief has yet to reach many of the affected families, the NPCC urged the Nagaland government, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and all concerned agencies to immediately undertake comprehensive relief and rehabilitation measures. It also appealed to the Centre to extend all possible assistance to support the affected communities.
The party further called on civil society organisations, churches, non-governmental organisations, businesses and citizens to contribute relief materials, financial assistance and voluntary services for those affected.
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) expressed condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the landslides and flash floods that struck Mon district and other parts of the state.
The federation acknowledged the efforts of the state government, district administration, NSDMA, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), security forces, medical personnel, civil society organisations, churches and volunteers engaged in rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations.
Appealing for collective support, the NSF urged Naga citizens, tribal bodies, student organisations, churches, civil society groups, business establishments and well-wishers to extend all possible assistance to affected families and communities.
The federation also urged the state government to ensure that relief reaches every affected family in a timely, transparent and equitable manner. It called for long-term rehabilitation measures, including the restoration of damaged roads, bridges, electricity, water supply and communication networks, and adequate compensation for the loss of homes, crops, livestock and other property.

The NSF also called on the government to strengthen disaster preparedness by investing in climate-resilient infrastructure, scientific landslide mitigation, improved drainage systems, slope stabilisation, early warning mechanisms, hazard mapping and resilient public infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the affected communities, the federation prayed for the families of those who lost their lives, the speedy recovery of the injured and strength for all those affected by the disaster.
