Imphal: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Government of Manipur, Anurag Bajpai on Monday inspected preparations for MANITEX 2026 at Nilakuthi, focusing on creating a platform to showcase the state’s handloom and textile heritage while promoting business opportunities.
Director of Handlooms and Textiles K. Ibohal Singh, Managing Director of MHHDCL Basanta Singh and designers accompanied Bajpai during the visit.
During the inspection, Bajpai reviewed the proposed event layout and issued directions on the design and development of the main stage, pandal and exhibition stalls.
He emphasised the need for an aesthetically appealing and coordinated presentation that reflects the identity, craftsmanship and cultural richness of Manipur’s handloom and textile traditions.
Bajpai directed that the venue be enhanced with decorative structures, thematic installations and innovative displays featuring handloom and textile products. The designs should highlight traditional fabrics, indigenous motifs, weaving techniques and the craftsmanship of local artisans, including internally displaced persons (IDPs).
He also stressed the need to develop business promotion points, interactive display areas and designated selfie points to improve visitor engagement and increase the visibility of Manipur’s textile products.
The installations should be visually distinctive and visitor-friendly, while also encouraging visitors to share their experiences on digital and social media platforms, according to the release.
Bajpai said MANITEX 2026 should go beyond being a product exhibition and serve as a platform for market expansion, business networking, buyer-seller interaction and promotion of Manipur’s handloom and textile sector.
The event is expected to facilitate stronger linkages among weavers, designers, entrepreneurs, traders, institutional buyers and potential investors, while creating opportunities for wider domestic and international market access.
