Nagaland University launches 4-year UG science programmes

Kohima: Nagaland University has opened admissions for its newly introduced four-year undergraduate science programmes at the Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre (MDRC) for the upcoming academic session.

Applications opened on April 27 and will remain open till May 18, officials said.

The programmes are aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and are designed to offer flexible learning pathways, multidisciplinary exposure and a research-oriented curriculum.
The MDRC will offer BSc degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology and Botany, with an intake of 10 seats in each discipline.

The courses follow a Flexible Choice-Based Credit System (FCBS) with multiple entry and exit options. Students can exit with a certificate after one year, a diploma after two years, a bachelor’s degree after three years, or a bachelor’s degree with research after four years. The four-year track may enable direct entry into PhD programmes, subject to applicable regulations.

According to the university, the curriculum integrates core science subjects with Ability Enhancement Courses and Value Added Courses aimed at strengthening analytical, professional and life skills.

Vice-Chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik said the initiative reflects the institution’s focus on academic innovation and research excellence.
“Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020, these programmes offer flexible exit options, a dedicated research track, and a truly multidisciplinary learning environment. This initiative reflects the University’s commitment to preparing students for evolving future demands,” he said.

The programmes will be offered at the Lumami campus and will provide access to advanced laboratories, digital learning platforms, research facilities and central library resources.

Candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in Class 12 or equivalent examinations from recognised boards are eligible to apply. Students awaiting results may also apply, subject to university rules.

Interested applicants can apply online through the university’s admission portal.
