Kohima: A coffee table book titled ‘Weaving Dreams – A Tribute to Inspiring Women of Nagaland’ was officially launched by Commissioner & Secretary, SCERT and School Education, Kevilenuo Angami, at de Oriental Grand in Kohima on Thursday.
The event also marked the felicitation of winners from the SDG Essay Competition 2024 and a state-level workshop on SDG Indicators Reporting Mechanism.
During her address, Kevilenuo Angami emphasised that the book is a thoughtful tribute to the women of Nagaland who exemplify resilience and excellence across various sectors.
She highlighted that these stories transcend time, reflecting the challenges, triumphs, and aspirations of remarkable women, adding that the book will serve as a lasting source of inspiration for future generations and changemakers alike.
She commended the team behind the project for capturing these compelling narratives, which promote crucial conversations about gender equality and inclusivity. In line with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5), which advocates for gender equality, the book is seen as a significant contribution to the empowerment of women and girls in Nagaland.
Angami also congratulated the young participants and winners of the SDG Essay Competition 2024, applauding their engagement with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their deep understanding of critical issues affecting the world today.
Nayantara Sasikumar, IES, in her opening remarks, highlighted that ‘Weaving Dreams’ showcases the stories of 19 women and two women-led organizations across 10 sectors. These women, she noted, have made exemplary contributions, gaining national and international recognition in fields including education, entrepreneurship, entertainment, literature and journalism, healthcare, disability advocacy, environmental conservation, science and technology, social services, and sports. Sasikumar expressed gratitude to the featured dignitaries for their participation in the project and reiterated the significance of the SDG Essay Competition, calling it a platform for the youth of Nagaland to share their visions for a sustainable and inclusive future.
In the SDG Essay Competition 2024, Bendangsola from Dimapur secured the first position in the category of participants aged 15 years and below, while Kupuli X. Ayemi from Zunheboto took second place. In the 16 years and above category, C. Chingo Konyak from Kohima emerged as the winner, with Livika Sumi from Dimapur named the runner-up.
The event also included a workshop on ‘SDG Indicator Reporting Mechanism,’ which focused on the importance of tracking and reporting progress on achieving SDGs. Angami stressed the need for collaboration and partnerships to ensure effective progress towards these global goals.
