Kohima: Amid fresh tension, a curfew has been imposed along the Peren-Chümoukedima border area following reports of conflict and unrest.

The order was issued by Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, prevent any breach of peace and maintain law and order in the region.

Invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS, 2023), previously Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the order prohibits the assembly of more than five persons and the carrying of lethal weapons, including firearms, lathis, daggers, machetes, spears, sticks, catapults, and other dangerous items.

The curfew specifically applies to the highway stretch from Vihuto Village, Khehoyi Village, to Kiyevi Village and the area along the Chümoukedima-Peren border belt.

The order comes into immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice. As the situation required urgent intervention, the notice was issued ex-parte and is being circulated to the public through press announcements and notices displayed at the offices of all district administration units, including those in Chümoukedima, DCPS, ADCPs, ACPs, and police stations.
