Chumoukedima: In light of the growing controversy surrounding a former senior pastor of Father’s House Church in Chumoukedima, the Asia Harvest Alliance (AHA) has released a statement to clarify its position and correct misinformation circulating in the media.
The pastor, identified as Robert Kikon faces allegations of sexual misconduct involving a young male, which has sparked widespread outrage.
The church earlier confirmed that Pastor Kikon, a founding member of Father’s House Church, resigned following revelations of his “immoral acts.”
AHA expressed deep sorrow over the recent revelations, acknowledging the impact Pastor Kikon’s actions have had on many people, both within and outside the congregation. However, the organisation clarified that Kikon is no longer a member of AHA and that it does not have jurisdiction to take direct action against him.
“Pastor Robert Kikon is not a member of the Asia Harvest Alliance. Therefore, the issue of AHA taking action against him is not in the jurisdiction of our organisation,” AHA’s statement read.
AHA further explained that Kikon was a member of the alliance from 2016 until 2019, after which he severed ties following a series of confrontations regarding inappropriate behavior. In 2017, AHA leaders confronted Kikon over allegations that he had sent inappropriate messages, hinting at “homosexual tendencies.”
The AHA revealed that Kikon admitted to struggling with these tendencies in the past but assured leaders that he had repented and undergone counseling.
Further reports of inappropriate behavior surfaced in 2019, leading to another meeting where AHA asked Kikon to step down from its council. After this, Kikon disassociated himself from all AHA activities, and Father’s House Church ceased participation in AHA as well.
AHA emphasised that none of the reports they received in 2017 and 2019 involved minors or physical molestation. “Since 2019, Robert Kikon, by his own will, has ceased to be a member of AHA,” the organisation reiterated.
AHA was approached by the Father’s House Church board on September 19, 2024, seeking advice in light of the recent allegations. During a meeting held on September 24, AHA agreed to provide advisory support but made it clear that they would not deal directly with Kikon.
“However, it was communicated that AHA would not deal directly with Robert Kikon, since he is not our member. We recommended that the church Board must deal directly and officially with Robert Kikon, and AHA would provide counsel and advisory help to the church,” it said.
AHA urged the public to avoid making irresponsible or inflammatory statements without knowing the full details of the situation.
“We are aware that this is a developing story, and many more allegations and evidence may be brought forth. So, we appeal to all to be patient and not resort to unnecessary, inflammatory statements,” the statement said, adding that they would continue to support the church and its members during this crisis,” it said.
The alliance also expressed its prayers for the victims, and all affected by Kikon’s actions and called for accurate reporting on such sensitive matters.
Father’s House Church had earlier confirmed Kikon’s resignation, and local authorities, including the Department of Social Welfare, are currently investigating the allegations.
