Kohima: In a major drive against illegal liquor under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, the Nagaland Police conducted a surprise two-hour raid across the state, leading to the arrest of at least 30 persons.
According to the Nagaland Police, the coordinated operation, carried out by District Executive Forces (DEF) and NAP/IR Battalions, targeted suspected areas involved in the sale and storage of illegal liquor.
The statewide crackdown, which took place on September 21, resulted in the registration of 28 cases and the arrest of 30 individuals under Section 44 (e) of the NLTP Act.
Dimapur, including Chümoukedima and Niuland, accounted for 1,752 bottles, while Kohima saw the seizure of 1933 bottles. Mokokchung DEF and its battalions confiscated 1,268 bottles, and Wokha DEF seized 1,684 bottles.
Other districts, including Phek, Peren, and Tuensang, contributed to the total seizure of 9,583 bottles.

The state police, in a statement, emphasised that the operation aims to enforce the NLTP Act strictly, with ongoing efforts to curb the sale/storing of illegal liquor across the state.
Nagaland Police further appealed to the public for cooperation in their fight against the illegal liquor trade. The police urged citizens to report any illicit activities to their respective Superintendents of Police or the Police Headquarters. The Nagaland Police also assured the public that the drive against illegal liquor sales would continue in the future.
